Lake Gogebic Ice Fishing

We have been trying to get our shacks out on the ice, however, there is a lot of slush out there and it’s been a difficult day. For the most part Bergland Bay is solid with a few scattered slush areas. The main lake has major slush pockets that can be dangerous and we don’t recommend drilling any holes just yet. We need some cold to freeze this up. There’s still good fishing in many spots around the lake. Check with Gus up at Maple Ridge or Jim down at the Walleye Lodge and we’ll both help guide you to spots that are safe for early ice fishing. We just need a few more days!

Lake Gogebic Ice Fishing

We can tell how the fish are biting by the traffic in the Bait Shop! Lake Gogebic ice conditions are very good with about 8-12″ of ice with about the same for snow coverage. There are some slush pockets out there, but hopefully cold temperatures will take care of that! Sleds and 4 wheelers (recommended with chains) are best. Walleye are hitting sucker minnows and jigging baits mostly during low light conditions in 7 to 14 feet. Some Northern Pike (small ones) using the sucker minnows as well. Perch anglers are moving about in the deeper water now in 20 to 25 feet using wigglers. Shacks are moving out of the bay and we hope to get ours out early this week.
